We have reached full capacity and closed registration for the technical tour. Thank you very much for the many applications.

In conjunction with the 2025 Annual Conference, we are pleased to offer the following technical tour in the Asakusa area of Tokyo.
We look forward to your participation.

Date & Time Tuesday, September 9, 2025, 13:00–18:00
Tour Destinations (1) District heating and cooling system at Tokyo Skytree Town (1-1-2 Oshiage, Sumida-ku, Tokyo)
(2) Behind-the-scenes tour of Sumida Aquarium
(3) Tour of Tokyo Skytree (transmission room at 250 m height and observation deck)
Capacity About 40 participants
* (3) Transmission room tour is limited to the first 20 registrants due to operational and safety reasons (details will be provided to selected participants)

Eligibility Participants of the Annual Conference
Fee 2,500 JPY (to be paid in cash on the day)
* Participants joining (3) must purchase an observation deck ticket separately at their own expense
Note Please wear appropriate attire (clothing that can get slightly dirty) and comfortable shoes such as sneakers. High heels and sandals are not permitted.

Purpose

Tokyo Skytree Town features Japan’s first urban-type district heating and cooling system utilizing geothermal energy, contributing to energy conservation, CO2 reduction, and heat island mitigation. This tour includes an overview and on-site inspection of the underground plant and large-scale heat source equipment, provided by Tobu Energy Management Co., Ltd. Participants will also have access to the backstage facilities of the Sumida Aquarium, which support aquatic life through temperature control and air conditioning systems. Furthermore, with the cooperation of Tobu Tower Skytree Co., Ltd., a classroom session on the Tokyo Skytree and its research initiatives will be provided, followed by a tour of the transmission room located 250 m above ground and free exploration of the observation deck.

Schedule (Tentative)

  • 13:10 — Meeting (location to be announced to registrants)
  • 13:20 — Reception
  • 13:30–14:30 — (1) Tour of the geothermal-based district heating and cooling system
  • 14:30–15:00 — Break and transfer
  • 15:00–16:00 — (2) Backstage tour of Sumida Aquarium
  • 16:00 — Dismissal for those participating in (1) and (2) only
  • 16:10–18:00 — (3) Skytree transmission room and observation deck visit
  • 18:00 — Tour ends at the site
