Notice: Technical Tour of District Heating and Cooling System and the Sumida Aquarium's Backstage Area at Tokyo Skytree Town

In conjunction with the 2025 Annual Meeting, we are pleased to offer the following technical tour in the Asakusa area of Tokyo.

Date & Time Tuesday, September 9, 2025, 13:00–16:00
Tour Locations Tokyo Skytree Town (1-1-2 Oshiage, Sumida-ku, Tokyo): district heating and cooling system, and Sumida Aquarium
Capacity Approximately 40 participants

Deadline Thursday, July 31, 2025 (Registration will close once capacity is reached)
Eligibility Participants of the Annual Meeting
Fee 2,500 JPY (to be paid in cash on the day of the tour)
Note Please wear appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes suitable for walking. High heels and sandals are not permitted.

Purpose

Tokyo Skytree Town features Japan’s first urban-type district heating and cooling system utilizing geothermal energy, contributing to energy savings, CO2 emission reductions, and mitigation of the heat island effect. This tour includes an overview of the system and a visit to the underground plant's large-scale thermal equipment. Participants will also have the opportunity to explore behind-the-scenes areas of the Sumida Aquarium, including the temperature control and air conditioning systems that support aquatic life. We welcome your participation.

Schedule (Tentative)

  • 13:10 — Meeting (Meeting location will be provided to registered participants later)
  • 13:20 — Reception
  • 13:30–14:30 — Tour of the geothermal heating and cooling facilities at Tokyo Skytree
  • 14:30–15:00 — Break and transfer to the aquarium
  • 15:00–16:00 — Backstage tour of Sumida Aquarium
  • 16:00 — Dismissal at site
